Consumer Art

Dutch artist Helmut Smits creates art that is both made from and comments on consumer products.
His sculptural work includes large installations like The Real Thing (a machine which filters Coke into Water) and Photo Tip (a backdrop which lets the viewer become part of a CNN broadcast) as well as smaller works like Trophy Cabinet (with trophies made from product packaging [detail left]) and Flag (an all white flag made with working florescent tubes).
