The new logo, which features custom typography, focuses on the idea of the various diverse components that come together to make what they called the “American” style of Fireworks. The visible overlapping of the elements creates a vibrant, playful quality, that says that this is not going to be a formal experience. Yet the strong, simple letter forms says that there is still technical precision and attention to detail. It is a clearly modern graphic that would stand out in the classical world and fit comfortaby in the indy rock world. By separating the words “fire” and “works” the logo makes clear that it is meant to be read as a conjoined word and that the meaning is deeper than just the straightforward definition.
I was recently hired to update the logo for Fireworks Ensemblean amplified chamber music band that plays a wide range of pieces from classical composers to Frank Zappa.
Their old logo wasn’t representative of the unusual & progressive qualities of the group.
