Love, Peace & Soul: Packaging Don Byron’s New Gospel Quintet

I was honored to be once again asked to work on a music package for the incredibly talented jazz musician Don Byron. This time it was for Love, Peace, and Soulthe first album by his New Gospel Quintet which was released by Savoy Jazz earlier this year.

The goal was to create a modern looking album that would appeal equally to jazz fans and people interested in traditional gospel music.

Since the album plays tribute to the founders of modern gospel music: Thomas A. Dorsey and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, we of course wanted to include their images front and center. The front cover features a vintage image of Dorsey that expresses the passion of the gospel tradition.

In a little bit of an Easter egg, the portion of the interior tray card image that is visible at the left of the cover is actually Don Byron as a baby at his Baptism.

More information about the album can be found HERE.
